Abstract

During a conference, it is a common behaviour to spread the word about discoveries, feelings and considerations. Those thoughts usually refer to the events that are occurring in the conference, such as keynotes, tutorials, talks. Among the possible communication channels to do it, Twitter is one of the most adopted platforms: it can reach easily a large amount of interested people, the messages are very short and requires only few minutes to be prepared. ECSTASYS is a mashup developed to improve the user experience of conference attendees, using their own contents as input. The application gathers the tweets related the conference, analyses them and links them to the events they refer to. ECSTASYS works in real time, processing the tweets as soon as they are available: in this way, conference attendees can have an updated and holistic view on what is happening the conference. To achieve its goal, ECSTASYS consumes data from different data sources: in addition to the afore mentioned Twitter, the conference schedule, DBLP and Google Scholar. The data processing combines named entity recognition, semantic web and crowdsourcing techniques to determine the relevant entities described in the tweets and, consequently, the events they relate to.
